What Does It Mean to Be on a Spiritual Journey?

A sunlit tree stands on a grassy hill, with sunlight radiating through branches, against a backdrop of a vibrant sunset sky. Mood is serene.

What does it truly mean to be on a spiritual journey? What does it mean to be spiritual? Each of us may offer a different answer, and yet, on a deeper level, we already carry that knowing within us. You may speak in different words, express it through different languages, or understand it in you own unique way - but the essence, and ultimately the destination, remains the same. As the saying goes, all roads lead to Rome.

To me, we are spiritual. The spirit is not something you go and look for, it is something you already are. You are Spirit...the spark of the divine is within you.  So when we say, “I want to be spiritual,” it is almost like saying, “I want to breathe.” It is already happening.

The challenge is not becoming spiritual. The challenge is allowing that spirit to guide us—to guide your choices, to guide your actions, and to guide you into becoming a better human being. This is where the true practice begins: in utilizing the quiet, powerful potential of the spirit within us.

The spiritual aspect of yourself is always guiding you, but where is it guiding you?

Not toward the dualistic world with the endless need to define what is right, what is wrong, what is proven, or what is fact. These things have their place, yes, but they do not feed the soul. They do not nourish the spirit or elevate you into a higher way of BEing.

When you begin to seek something deeper, different questions naturally arise: Why am I here? What am I doing? Why am I doing this? These are not small questions. They emerge from a greater awareness - one that exists beyond the personal self.

With this awareness comes even deeper reflection. Do I matter? Why do I matter? Why did I choose to be here? Somehow, your soul has arrived in this moment, in this place. And you begin to receive even the smallest glimpses of understanding, it feels as though you  are gathering pieces of a sacred puzzle. Each piece expands you, softens you, and opens you to the vastness of who you truly are.

To me, this is the true spiritual journey - not becoming something new, but allowing what already exists within you to unfold. It is allowing this awareness to guide you toward a higher truth: a truth where love exists, where kindness exists, where compassion and understanding naturally arise.

It is a truth that reaches beyond the dualistic nature of the world.

The spiritual journey is not about reaching a destination. It is about recognizing the spirit within you and allowing it to lead you into a deeper understanding of yourself and of life.

With Love and Peace,

Dr. Lenka Schulze
