Intuition is something everyone knows about, yet few truly understand. We often hear people say, “I had a gut feeling,” or “I just got a vibe.” And yes, that is intuition, but it’s also so much more.

Intuition is the very first sense we’re born with. As babies, our vision isn’t fully developed, and our hands are curled, unable to touch or grasp. Yet, somehow, we know where our mother is. We sense when someone unfamiliar enters the room, and if we don’t feel safe, we cry. These are the subtle languages we speak before we ever learn words.

Intuition is that unspoken language of knowing.

Words, in fact, can sometimes interfere with intuition. The moment we move into language, we enter the mind, and the intellect takes over. Intellect is important, but when it dominates, it drowns out the quiet voice of intuition. True wisdom comes when intellect and intuition work together in harmony.

At its core, intuition is the language of the soul. So, to understand intuition, we must first ask:

  • What is the soul?

  • How do I connect with it?

  • Why does it matter?

The soul is our internal GPS, our divine navigation system. But for many of us, that GPS is turned off.

Why We Lose Touch with Intuition

There are many reasons we lose touch with intuition. Some of it comes from experience, touching something hot and learning not to trust our impulse again. But often, it’s our surroundings. As children, we’re told what to do, what to believe, and how to behave. Authoritative voices, parents, teachers, society shape our choices, and in the process, we learn to suppress our inner voice.

Over time, we stop listening.

But here’s the beautiful truth: intuition always finds a way back. In midlife, it begins to rise again, louder, wiser, more insistent. Whether we like it or not, it reawakens. Both men and women experience this “second coming” of intuition. For women this is the intuition in men-o-pause. It’s life’s way of giving us another chance to reconnect with our soul’s guidance system.

The Cycles of Life and Cosmic Timing

Throughout our lives, we experience major energetic shifts. Around age 30, we go through what astrology calls a Saturn Return. This is a time of realignment, change, and growth. Between 38 and 44, we encounter the Uranus Opposition, often referred to as the “midlife crisis.” It’s a period when our inner alarm clock starts to ring. We sense that something needs to shift.

Then, around age 50, comes the Chiron Return, the continuation of midlife transformation. Chiron, symbolized by the half-man, half-horse archetype, represents the Wounded Healer. This is when we are called to revisit our deepest wounds, not to suffer again, but to heal and be reborn.

The first time we were born, we entered a family, culture, and belief system we didn’t choose. But during the Chiron Return, we are invited to be spiritually reborn. We are asked to choose our spiritual family, release old baggage, and align with our true essence.

The Role of Menopause and Renewal

For many women, this rebirth coincides with menopause. The word itself, men-o-pause, is symbolic. It’s not about stopping; it’s about pausing. Pausing the noise, the busyness, and the expectations, so we can reset and rediscover ourselves.

It’s an invitation to reflect: What’s really going on within me?

This stage of life mirrors our earlier stages—infancy, adolescence, maturity, and invites us to integrate them all. It’s a time of gathering the harvest of our experiences, acknowledging both the pain and the beauty, and sharing our wisdom with others.

The Battle Between Desire and Intuition

A common question is: How can I tell the difference between my desire and my intuition?

Desire often comes from the ego. It is the “I want.”

Intuition, however, arises from a deeper place. It is the “I know.”

To discern between them, ask yourself why you want something. The “why” reveals the truth. If your desire stems from fear, comparison, or lack, it’s likely ego. If it feels calm, clear, and purposeful, even if illogical, that’s intuition.

Intuition doesn’t always make sense. It’s gentle, quiet, and often leads you toward what benefits not just you, but others as well. When aligned with your intuition, your actions naturally serve a greater good.

Reconnecting with Intuition in Men-o-Pause

So, how can women (and men) in midlife reconnect with their intuition?

It begins within.

True empowerment doesn’t come from the outside world, it comes from self-trust. When you know who you are, you no longer depend on others for validation. You build confidence from your own awareness, and that self-assurance opens the door to deeper intuition.

This stage of life isn’t about proving yourself anymore. It is about becoming yourself.

Ask yourself:

  • Is this relationship helping me grow?

  • Does this situation bring peace or tension?

  • Am I acting from fear or from love?

Awareness is key. Pay attention to how you feel after interactions, what you consume, what environments you enter. Your emotions are the language of your heart.

The Power of Emotions

Many people today are uncomfortable with their emotions. They seek to numb or control them. But emotions are not right or wrong. They are waves that teach us. When we ride them consciously, we gain mastery over ourselves.

That’s what Chiron teaches us: emotional mastery through compassion.

Our feelings are like the tides of the moon, rising and falling, revealing what is hidden. Instead of resisting, we can observe: What is this emotion trying to show me?

Healing and Self-Nurturing

Peace comes when we surrender to the higher power. Healing begins with gentleness. Whether through therapy, energy work, nature walks, acupuncture, or simply creating daily rituals of beauty and mindfulness, healing is about nurturing the self you may have neglected during your “first life.”

Ask:

  • How do I want to be reborn?

  • How do I want to show up in this next chapter?

At this stage, we no longer need to seek approval. We can speak our truth with kindness, live authentically, and create a life that reflects our spirit.

Living with Intuition

My book Intuition: Listening to Your Inner Voice teaches readers to trust themselves and recognize the subtle ways intuition communicates. It explores the difference between judgment and discernment. Judgment is rooted in fear, while discernment is rooted in awareness. When we learn to observe without judgment, we elevate our vibration and live with more peace and clarity.

Three Pieces of Advice for Strengthening Intuition

  1. Practice Compassion – Be gentle with yourself as you rediscover who you are.

  2. Trust and Awareness – Notice what feels aligned and what doesn’t.

  3. Authenticity and Freedom – As you grow in self-trust, you’ll naturally seek truth, integrity, and transparency in yourself and others.

When we live from this place, we awaken the soul’s GPS once again. We begin to walk our path not from fear, but from faith, purpose, and love.
