Trust Your Gut

Intuition may be challenging to define, even though it plays a huge role in our lives every day. Steve Jobs once called it "more powerful than intellect”.

Intuition is with us all the time, whether we know it or not. It is the simple language that we have with ourselves— it is our inner voice, the language of our soul and ultimately, (in my opinion) our first sense. As newborns, though our eyesight is not yet completely developed and the dexterity of our hands is limited, we can still sense whether or not if our mother is nearby or if potential danger lurks. Babies thrive on loving care, and scream more often in disruptive surroundings.

Intuition is guiding us like an internal GPS, attempting to steer us in the right direction. Intuitive messages come to us in different ways. It is that “gut reaction", “sick feeling,” or sudden “knowing” that appears out of nowhere, telling us to leave a certain place, stop talking to someone or even to decline a business deal. People have reported how intuition has saved their lives.

Let’s not stop there— there is more— our intuition can be an essential contributor to our overall health and well-being. As an Intuologist, my desire is to heighten your awareness of your own gift of intuition. Your intuition can serve you well on your healing journey. This fact may be even more critical today than in the past year. Prior to 1940, physicians were like family members. Doctors knew everyone in our families and they had a pulse on its dynamics— the death of a loved one or the birth of a new baby. Doctors worked with herbs, counseled us and placed their hands on us as patients, a practice known now as energy healing. In contrast, today our healing journey may look very different. We have become lost in the shuffle between doctor visits and the collection of diagnoses and medications. Perhaps you have opened yourself to the idea of seeing an alternative doctor, but you have also found yourself lost again as each alternative medicine expert has a different philosophy and protocol.

Now you may be feeling confused— Who is right? Who is wrong? The list of recommendations to follow is long: take multiple supplements and herbs, eat more protein, limit grains, avoid dairy, stay away from gluten, eat garlic, cook with cinnamon, don’t cook with plastic, balance your hormones, and don’t forget to detox your body!!

Each and every specialist has their own truth and knowledge base. It should be pointed out that no one doctor can know you as well as you know yourself. You must learn to listen to your body! Certainly it makes sense to partner with your doctors, be open-minded and listen to what they have to say—but, ultimately, you will discover that the only one in the best position to guide yourself back to health is YOU! This means that YOU need to take the initiative to educate yourself and decide what you think would be the best plan of action for you. Although your doctor can assist you on your healing journey by advising you and recommending different avenues of treatment, it is YOU and your intuition making the final decision.

Science demonstrates many proven benefits when we connect to our inner guidance and trust our gut feeling. For example, research by Dr. Rollin McCraty, Ph.D, of the HeartMath Institute demonstrates that our heart gives us signals about a situation up to six seconds before we actually encounter it. In other words, the heart gives us information even before the brain does!

If we listen to our inner guidance, we honor and strengthen our physical heart’s ability to communicate with us. This is yet another important reason to dive into the world of intuition.
