You Walking the Dog, or is the Dog Walking You? Are you aware of your thoughts? Or are they taking you for a ride? You know the saying: "You are what (and how) you think." If we are not in control of our thoughts, our thoughts will control us. If we are not aware of our thoughts, they will have the power to turn our life in whichever direction they go. Experts say we have approximately 60,000 thoughts each day… but we actually only use about 5% of our brain’s capacity. The rest of our thoughts are created in our subconscious mind. We are not aware of many of those thoughts because they run on autopilot; they follow each other closely and create a recording in our head that keeps playing the same tune. Then they become part of who we are. The question we then have to ask ourselves is: are we fulfilled in who we are? If we are to evolve, how can we change our thoughts? Asking ourselves this pivotal question can put us on the path to awareness, and the path to empowerment that will create a shift in your life. You can start by being an observer of your thoughts. Do not judge or condemn any thoughts that come your way, just simply observe them. I like to use the analogy of food. You may have a bag of chips or a big chocolate bar in your kitchen pantry. These treats will not become part of your energy until you eat them. As long as you are just an observer of these treats, nothing will happen. But once you eat the treats, they become part of your body; then you will "feel" the energy of the food as it becomes part of you. Thoughts work in a similar way. As long as you just observe them, they have no power over you. Once you choose to bring a feeling to that thought, it changes its form. And if the feeling lasts for a longer period of time, it becomes an emotion. So you can now see how powerful your thoughts are, and how awareness plays an important role in your life. Are you in control of your thoughts, or are your thoughts controlling you? Are you walking the dog? Or is the dog walking you?
